CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL'S SUPPORT SERVICES
PTSA EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATION [AKA SPECIAL NEEDS COMMITTEE]
Who We Are
The PTA Exceptional Education Committee fosters collaboration among parents, teachers, schools, and the community to support children with special needs. Many schools have a Special Needs Committee Representative on their local PTA who represents the school on our council committee, provides information back to the school, and may plan programs or get-acquainted gatherings for the school site.
What We Do
- Provide information and support to parents and staff so they can help Exceptional Learners with special needs succeed.
- Help ALL children and adults understand and appreciate challenges faced by children who are exceptional learners.
- Work legislatively to secure and retain adequate laws and funding for children who are exceptional learners.
As part of our educational outreach, we typically plan a valuable array of programs to provide support for parents and educators of children who are exceptional learners.
- Evening Programs: Several evening programs will be offered throughout the year, on various topics related to children and youth who are exceptional learners.
- Annual Parenting Conference: TBD
- Ability Awareness: TBD. SRV Council of PTAs traditionally provides and supports ability awareness workshops and simulations to students, parents and staff.

Exceptional Education Dance. Winter Wonderdance
in the past, a winter wonder dance was organized for the students in the special needs program. This fun daytime event (Thursday from 10 am to 1 pm) was hosted by the PTSA of the three participating High schools. In case we can assemble enough volunteers, enthusiasm in organizing and funds from all three schools, we will like to bring the Winter Wonder dance back. If you are interrested in helping please contact our Exceptional Ed chair, Reina Pasternak, calhighEE@gmail.com
